Here is an example of an intentional sweep

Red predicts that white will capture pawn with queen, so she sets up a sweep to combat this.

The queens about to intersect. Red's queen was moved first and came from a longer distance, so white's queen will be the victim.

The resulting position. White's queen has disappeared. Nice play by red!

Here's another way of using sweeps to defend your piece:

Sweep combo by white, who takes red's pawn. The bishop is immune to capture because white is planning a sweep that will win Red's queen.
